West Texas | I recall reading some years ago about one California farmer who was convinced that deep ripping was the way to go, and he proceeded to rip all his land 5 feet deep using tungsten steel tipped shanks. He did his plowing with Big Bud tractors, and the story goes that when they raised the chisels to turn for the next pass, they could see the shanks glowing red when they worked at night.
Anyway, he was forced to stop that practice by the greeners. Endangering some obscure varmint, I believe. | |
