The rapidly vanishing farmland of Boone Co. Ind.
Bsfarms, this something you do not want to guess at. You can do the whole span, without a post, in wood. But, you need an engineer and a carpenter. Should be able to find both at a real lumberyard. Not Menard's, Lowe's, etc. New kitchen is expensive, even if you do the work yourself and a sag in the ceiling will be even more expensive. You wouldn't let a carpenter plant your crops would you? Have them size your beam and recommend a person to install it or help you install it. Money well spent, a big difference between a guy with a saw and a hammer and a carpenter.
