| We have done ndvi imagery and variable rate nitrogen for one year with optrix system on the sprayer for winter wheat. I don't think there were nitrogen savings. I see 2 advantages. 1:We were able to identify potential yield in April to help with management decisions latter on. We are still crunching numbers, but some preliminary results show that on 45 bushel/acre doublecrop wheat, we estimated within 1/2 bushel/acre of the actual yield. On 85 bushel/acre full season wheat, we estimated within 10 bu/a. and 2: We were able to correct N deficient areas where denitrification had occurred. There are free images available to everyone from the internet that might be worth looking at. One is updated every 2 weeks and the other is about every 3-4 days. Resolution varies from 2.5 acres to about 15 acres, I think. Remember, if you want to provide this service, you will also have to have software to process the ndvi imagery, and then process the images into a format that is valuable to the client, ie, build a prescription N map, or estimated yield map for the producers. It takes a little work to get from ndvi to yield. | |
