Elizabethtown,KY | I spent from Oct '70-Oct '76 in the 100th Div Army reserves in Louisville, KY. Took basic at Ft. Leonard Wood MO and AIT on the job training at Ft. Sam Houston TX, I was a 71Bravo.
I had to go to college an extra semester in the fall of '70 at the University of KY because they moved 2 soils classes that I had to have for my Agronomy degree from spring to fall, so I lost my 2S deferment. I enlisted in the Reserves to keep from getting jerked out of school in that final semester because my number in the lottery was 97, so I became 1A and would definitely been drafted had I not been enlisted in the Reserves.
I was a staff sergeant when I got out, my job was supervising the duty soldiers on week-end drills, so needless to say I got out when my 6 year obligation was fulfilled. | |
