Washington, Kansas & Lincoln, Nebraska | was in Topeka yesterday. Had the misfortune to want to use Menoken Road. I was halfway down the mile, when I realized there was a train across the crossing. Being it was raining I wasn't in a big hurry and it was warm enough to shut my engine and heater off. I sat there for 15 minutes before I gave up and backtracked. I went to Kenworth, right by the tracks, to look for an exhaust pipe. By the time I had my turn at the counter and left, that train had been sitting there for 40 minutes . . . and I didn't stay to see how long it took for it to move afterwards, nor do I know how long it sat there before I knew it was there. I called the 800 number at the crossing and was asked for a call back number. Yep, you guessed it. No return call. UP must think they can do as they wish.
I thought trains had a maximum of 10 minutes to clear a crossing. Am I wrong about that?
