The LP engines do have a little bit of a different sound to them and they seem to be picky about plugs and wires.  One of the best things we've done to our's was to put electronic ignition and a higher output coil on it, grandpa's owned that tractor since '65 when it was two years old and after converting it to electronic ignition it runs better than it ever did before.
