Subject: RE: Rebuilt alternator running hot question...

The operator called me around 1400 today and notified me that the engine started to run a little hot and the alternator was not charging. He got out an noticed the bolt that holds the alternator had backed off and the belt was slipping. (He's a good operator - actually looked at gauges).

Anyway, I told him I wouldn't be able to fix it unitl later this evening. The alternator had the bearings completely shot. It may have run for a little period with no belt pull, so maybe what you are saying is what is happening, but somehow I dought it. My luck ain't that good.

Anyway, my fear is that the darn alternator wasn't rebuilt properly.
