West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | We farm.
Our school district has 9.98 acres that was not being used and was renting it out. We convinced the principle and the school board that better use of the land was to let the alumni farm it rent free seeings how we alumni members had all paid our taxes and actually owned part of the land anyhow. :)
Two Local fertilizer places donate fertilizer and herbicide, sometimes seed if one the local private seed sales people don't want to donate. Yours truly usually donates all the machine and labor because I rent the farm across the road from the school and was told it's "handy" for me. If one of the FFA members wants to do any of the farming with their equipment the alumni pays them the going custom rate for the job performed. Corn or soybeans are sold in the fall, local elevator gives us a break on the corn drying during the corn years.
Everybody involved gets free FFA banquet tickets and also an atta boy at the banquet. Oh yea, the donations are all tax deductible too. :)
edit too add...We have a vending machine in the school also with healthy snacks, it's kind of a struggle to find willing FFA members to keep it stocked but it does generate a little profit.
