Central Iowa | Unless everyone is ready to change their mindset about tethering or fencing in the new pup, I'd wait. Two run over pups in one year isn't a good indication that they're ready to dedicate the time to training.
We're going through the same thing with a goldie pup that replaced an Aussie Shepard I lost to the blacktop last spring. I had to literally scrape my dogs guts off the highway with my fingers. It was an awful experience, and the smell of blood didn't leave me for days. I swore it'd never happen again. A new fence is being built as we speak, and in the mean time, if she's outside, she's leashed.
New pups are a helluva lot more work, especially now that I'm older. I'd think twice if I were you. | |
