West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | Bins, trucks, and a narrower basis a little bit further away have made us a lot of net profit over the years. Around here the difference between buyers basis is a lot sometimes.
Know what it costs to run the truck before wages. If the $50.00/load is clear after all truck expenses I for sure would do it, I do it all the time, sometimes just to prove a point to the closer buyer I'll do it for the cost of fuel only.
Here's how I look at it. Three loads/day = $150.00/day clear wages. So it takes an extra day or two, so what, all I was doing was watching the corn grow and typeing smart on some ag web site anyway. There are no part time jobs in town offering $50.00/hr in my area.
What happens a lot of times is farmers buy a truck and then realize they don't like to drive truck. Like farming, it's not as easy as it looks. |
