Subject: RE: Cow-Calf vs Row Crop Profit

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Yes that includes the cow and raising the calf to about 1100 lb in 13-14 months by grazing corn. Spring calving. Rotational grazing for 6 months, wean in November.  Cow on silage and hay for 6 months. Calf on hay then grazing corn and hay. Fertilizing/liming hay ground. Spring strip till CoC for the grazing and silage corn.

Basically just what I have been doing but I am not up to "capacity" yet. However it seems like I can do everything on around 2 acres per sold 1100 lb/13-14 month old steer including the cow and winter hay/silage/grazing corn.  The key is getting some summer rains.  If not they get hay out of the surplus. I have a remarkable hay surplus this year due to introducing the bagged silage.

I am going to introduce cover crops this year into the corn silage ground for more grazing.
