SW KS, near Dodge City | Why? So the farmers could simply vote themselves more subsidies? Let's not pretend we're all pure as the driven snow here either.
The problem is that the ENTIRE populace is turning to the government for support/handouts/whatever. And everybody will say "I'd rather not have gov't subsidies anyway." Well, that's fine. So lets take those out, including crop insurance. Then watch land values probably take a big % cut, as well as cash rents, and is anybody really willing to do that? Sure, great for new/starting out farmers, but probably not so great for those that bought in the last 10 years, or are at retirement age, or are retired, or about anybody.
We have a messed up system, but we created it over several decades, and it will likely take several decades to ever fix it, if we even can. | |
