SESC
I was in Ukraine in 2004 for a brief stay of about two weeks to adopt a child and I could not believe the situation in that country. There seemed to be a struggle between the youth and the older generation. The youth wanted to give capitalism a try but the older wanted to go back to the old system just because it was easier in a way because they did not know how to handle capitalism. At that time it appeared that the Russian Mafia had a pretty strong hold in that country I was amazed with a culture that was as educated as they were to allow that. After my stay there I traveled to Poland for a while and the difference was amazing that country hit the ground running and never looked back as for as capitalism goes. I could tell that the older generation still remembered the time before communism and knew the difference of the two and never wanted to go back.
