Removing the Kulaks happened on both sides of the border, with equal severity. My wife's ancestors barely escaped with their lives, they were "kulaks" then got reestablished under Lenin's New Economic Program only to have to go on the run once again once it ended.  A very interesting story how they survived, then the war, even more incredible stories.
