Columbia, MO | Well, I'll tell ya. I am a poor cotton farmer, but I try!
I also hope you have a good diabetes support team. My daughter goes to a clinic associated with the University that has five doctors, two nurse practitioners, three dedicated nurses, two nutritionists, and a social worker. They all play a part. We spent four days in the hospital doing education, practiced giving injections, that kind of thing. Very intense.
I heard a fact from a local JDRF conference that 1 in 300 kids will be diagnosed Type 1. I have seen the increase in just the three years we have been involved with the Type 1 community.
Also after everything sinks in a few months, you might look into Trialnet testing if there are any siblings. They will take blood and test for certain antibodies. If these antbodies are found, it is a pretty good indicator Type 1 is coming. This is strictly voluntary, like I said don't worry about this now.
It looks like you have the right attitude, God's Blessing to you and yours.
