Bremen, KS | NASCAR is in a straight jacket of thinking they need to continue to offer the same product week after week with a bit of variance owing to the length and style of the track. The basic formula is that of an endurance race at speed which is fine for a place like Daytona or Talledega. For most of the 1.5 mile tracks I think they could capture some of the excitement by switching things up and adopting more of a dirt track format with elimination races.
Now the Cup field is locked at 43 cars and eliminations take place during qualifying which are often the day or two before the race. Instead, they could open the field up to whomever can build the car to meet specs. Imagine 70 cars at the event for an afternoon of heat races and transfer spots. Whoever has the fastest winning time gets the pole for the feature and so on. Would it work? Beats me, but it might be worth a try at a few of the 1.5 mile tracks.
But then I would like to see some of the current 1.5 races replaced by road course races as there are several premier road courses around the country. I also like F1, so there you go!
