NASCAR wants to have a playoff formula like other sports to keep the buzz up at the end of the season.

The difference is, stick and ball sports have a dozen or two games every day, 3 days, or week, with just a few games to one game in the end for the playoffs. This naturally channels a big base of fans for regional areas into the mass intrest of the last few rare games.

NASCAR already had that formula, with one race per week. Local folks could attend the race, the rest of us could enjoy the one race.

As the try to change emphasis from the race of the week to just constantly talk about some special chase at one race at the end of the season, they make the race happening any other week less and less interesting, less important.

What they used to have was 36 interesting races with a minor flutter about the overall championship.

Now they are trying to talk about just one race all year long, and to heck with the other 30 some races.

Good enough, I think they succeeded. I used to be an avid NASCAR fan, and this year I've hardly even noticed the season is coming. I've only listened to 10 minutes a time or two on the NASCAR sat channel. I'm sure ill watch races on TV if I come across them, but since all the talk will be about whatever happens in Homestead and very little talk about the race of the week, I really don't so much care any more. I was an avid fan. Now im mildly interested if it fits.

What they had doesnt fit what they are trying to do. I don't see how they expect to pick up new fans, when they make any given weekly race worth less?

I can move on.
