 East Central Ia | That is true for 120v, in a 240v circuit the hot conductors are opposing frequencies so as current flows towards a load on one hot conductor it flows away on the other so a neutral would have no load and is not even needed. A neutral is only needed for 120v and like you said carries equal load to the 120v hot conductor. But as I said a nuetral can be downsized... but it's much more complicated to figure and for most of our uses a neutral is not even needed but when it is its safe to assume it should be the same awg as the conductors. | |
