Faunsdale, AL | Amphoteracin B is an old standard treatment. Must be given IV in fluids, so vet must administer, but should cure it. It's not a death sentence. Lots of times there is a pattern on x-ray of lungs that is a good indicator that might be the cause, so X-ray may be the fastest way to arrive at a diagnosis unless there are skin lesions or enlarged lymph nodes that can be sampled for smear and stain on slide to look for budding yeast.
I expect there are oral treatment protocols with more modern antifungal drugs that might wind up being cheaper than the amphoteracin B with IV's , monitoring kidney function etc.
