Northeast, NE | There are still a couple of us around with smaller old barns that can take part of a full group from the big guys if need be. Yes the barns are shot, but they are paid for, and I can afford to give up some efficiency because I do not have a huge building payment staring me in the face. Also, since the barns are paid for, if I am just picking up groups here and there, I can choose to sit empty if the numbers don't look good. The new barn will be a different story. I guess I'll just have to pay for it with my free manure! lol ; )
drk there are lots of ways to do things in the hog industry, don't let one group of people dictate what you do. If you are thinking about building...go look at a lot of different barns and builders and talk to a lot of different farmers.
