These pictures were taken Tuesday when the outside temperature was 96. The pictures document 3 areas of the same variety of corn with the same crop history, planting date, zero applied N... everything the same except tillage and irrigation history the past 3 years.
The first picture is one ear from each row from 23 rows next to each other. It starts with long-term no till dryland on the left, 8 rows of tilled dryland in the middle that was irrigated last year and had a full subsoil moisture profile, and ends on the right with full gravity irrigation (irrigated one time the first week of July and again right after this picture was taken)
The no-till on the left is increasing in OM while the gravity irrigated on the right is burning some of it up.
One more interesting note, none of the good ears had earworm except the 4th from the left. But all 8 of the middle rows had earworm in it.
