200 kg/H of 10% Nitrogen and 100 kg/H of ammonium sulfate is equivalent to 36.5 lbs of N per Acre. This is more than enough to completely suppress nodulation and nitrogen fixation so explains why you saw no response to the innoculant. 5 kg/H nitrogen is more than enough starter N for soybeans.
I, too see less variation of soybean yields between better soils and poorer soils than with corn but should that be so surprising? The yield of corn (maize) is twice to three times that of the best soybeans. This means that maize has water and nurtrient requirements of approximately three times that of soybeans and the soil must be able to supply this.
