Some one we had talked to suggested that we may need to let him claim himself so he would not be affected by us.
You can read up on this (there is plenty of info out there on the web and other places) but just simply letting him claim himself on his tax return won't keep your assets and income from affecting his FAFSA. I get this question about 100 times a year. I've had people even go as far as to do it only to find out that things like car insurance and health insurance become much bigger problems and they still didn't qualify for more financial aid. Congrats to their college financial adviser for causing some messes on those. |
