![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=247&type=profile&rnd=96) Nevada, Iowa | We have seeded some in the spring of the year for cover once. It does not grow normally, it doesn't look as green and lush and it tends to stool out more. Later in the season some tall stalks will emerge from the mass but will not produce seed. Any tall shoots will still be half or less the height of vernalized seed. I don't recall digging any roots but it did seem to hold the soil well, just looked rather anemic.
Vernalized just popped up on my spell check so I checked it with an online dictionary, came across this derivative - "ver·nal·i·za·tion (vûr n -l -z sh n). n. Subjection of seeds or seedlings to low temperature in order to hasten plant development and flowering." By that definition, perhaps subjecting the seed to cold is enough to put things in motion. Let us know what happens. | |
