Ours turn black because fungus will start growing on em. Think the humidity has somethign to do with it.

That is something that up north they experienced during this droughty period with their corn. Corn died prematurely and you have black mold growing on the corn. At harvest it causes a very dirty harvest and your combine will be black after 30 min of shelling.
