| Ive grown them for pioneer for over a 15 years. It works good for me.
Pros are premiums earned. Good basis on the sales. You can sell percentages, so you can never over sell. You get new varieties sometimes befor they are even realesed. No up front seed cost, it's taken out of your sale or you can pay in in Dec if desired. Used to buy the seed for a little less but that advantage has narrowed.
Cons. Cleaning time for combine and equipment if you switch crops. You don't get to pick your variety. It's buyers call, so they may want them in a snow storm or ice storm on a Sunday. And they may want them when the road is posted so I get to argue with the road commisioner. They are picky on quality, so you can't cut corners. | |
