Subject: the original posters question??

The Shell Knob Basin (Southwest Missouri)

What have you noticed in your own feedlot Cupps? In my trials-which has been several 1000's of cattle-my trend tells me if I do not feed enough calories and protein the cattle will not grade as good-seems to make the steers and heifers bigger framed and never finnish as I was not feeding them as hard-
My concensus was if you dont plan on bumping the energy and protein the implant can not take advantage of the efficency?
Plus the old boy that bought my cattle-quickly pointed out every time what i did wrong by reading my kill sheet-and would be hard to not agree as he was buying 1,000"s of fat cattle a week.
You want to run a hotter implant, you best be watching what you do-thats puttin energy and protein in front of them, what was the orignal posters question?

I dont have a "feedot" feedlot.... our corn is worth too much to the turkey and chicken guys around here!..... but i do run steers on 2.5lbs of corn with a 20-30lb pound silage or forage base ration and normally a 5-6lb supplement of a distillers / gluten / soyhulls mix.... We have kept data on trying to increase adg by bumping overall protein from about 12.5% all the way up to twenty... but have actually noticed the most benfit by increasing fat and N instead of actual protein..... i now have about a 20% protein ration, but about 6% of that comes from urea and the only reason im at 14% "non nitrogen protein source" is i want the fat in the distillers..... these bigger higher ruminal ph steers feed different than the glory days of throwing a 62% base of 2 dollar corn through them at 500lbs on... and just makeing sure they had enough supplemental protein to supply the lysine that was defficent in the corn.... Those days are over... time to get these cattle to 1000 without the corn.. and from our own feeding info, an incease in the actual natural protein over 12% doesnt show the response that an increase in a highly digestable fiber or fat energy source will... espeially if youve got the rminal Nitrogen............

and the original posters question Garvo was what implant he should use on 780-900 weight steers that hes feeding 3lbs of corn 8.5 pounds of higher ph AminoRipOff, and the 20lbs balance of silage and hay to, i told him..... id prob use an ""intermediate"", trenbolone acetate/estradiol implant.... because iv fed ALOT of calves with a similar feeding regiment, and had great luck..... but in his situation with his feed, Im not going to tell him he needs to increase the protein of the ration if he goes with that “intermediate” implant like you did....... becasue i dont think he needs to. I also told him if he wasnt going to push them any at all by increasing the daily amount of silage or higher quality forage over what there already cleaning up, that he could go back with a 200mg progesterone / 20mg estradiol implant.........
