Central Texas
It appears we are at a crossroads on both grain and cattle production cycles. The smart folks think we will be back to much cheaper grain as soon as the USA makes a good grain crop and past history also indicates this. With cattle, our cow numbers are a historical lows and it will take several years to rebuild the cowherd so there should be good calf prices for a few years. From an economic standpoint, it appears to me that cattle have the best potential for the next several years. Also cattle should require less equipment investment which fits my philosophy of avoiding things that rust, rot and depreciate.

I grew up with crops and cattle but the crop farming was what I thought I wanted to do. After many years (1980's) of cheap grain, finally got grain farming out of my system but stayed with the cattle, so I have an idea of where you're coming from.

Just another 2 cents worth.
