Either folks realize how the waiter or waitress is paid, OR the industry needs to be held accountable. This dirty little trick by the industry has bothered me for a long time. Notice who took the blame in this story. The pastor was wrong and the business was wrong. The kid just made an injustice known- we used to call that person a patriot.

Oh I agree it's wrong. Tipping is a stupid way to earn a living. Let the restaurant pay a decent wage and charge accordingly.

Where I have a problem is, as a customer, I'm thrust into financially arbitrating a payroll agreement made between employee and employer.

I pay any other bill as submitted, leave me out of making up a kids wage, and just give me the bill for goods or services.
