North Central ND | I think the shrink would be about the same as far as the trip goes. but in response to the questions on timing I would agree on two days before or at least in the early morning of the day before. This gives them some time to settle in and eat a little. Another option is to haul the day of so they dont really have to adjust. But I know the barn would appreciate them before sale day.
But one factor that many folks dont think about is this. Will the increase in dollars to take your calves 70 miles cover hauling the one cull cow you have to sell later in the year to that same barn? One of my biggest pet peaves is watchin guys haul their calves to a barn 200 miles away and then turning around and hauling their cows to the local barn and expecting the same service as everyone else. A barn cant make it on weigh up cows so you better be ready to make the long haul with your culls when the barn has to close its doors.... | |
