West Central Iowa | I believe the idea has some merit, but feel that I need to raise the bulls to sell to my customers in the same way they operate their herds. Recently, especially with the drought, there has been more "earlier" weaning.....like late August or early September.........but believe that was more of an emergency decision than one that will be pursued every year.
That does raise an interesting question though.........do commercial producers seek out seedstock from programs that are managed/operated similar to their own or do they just want to show up and pick the best looking bull. How important is the way the animal was raised to the purchaser. If the response is that people don't care and just want the best animal.........early weaning may seem more appealing. | |
