Western Iowa | My un-educated 2 cents worth......
My thinking rotational grazing in summer (mid may till oct), run on corn stalks from oct-nov on one farm. move them 1st of dec or so and stay on stalks till feb (weather permiting). That gives 9 months of feeding
For the other time and for when snow covers the stalks, mix up some corn silage, ground corn stalk bales, and grass hay off waterways and ditches and feed them.
I my mind hard to beat corn silage for supplement feed. Real easy to put up a lot of ton in a hurry, doesn't take many acres, and mixed with stalks or brome hay makes a nice cow ration without chasing your tail hauling hay bales and running back and forth from the ethonal plant getting byproducts.
I think this works well in Iowa here..... | |
