NE central IL | We put an annual forage (sorgam-sudane) out after wheat in N. IL. Double crop beans are very iffy and we can get two cycles out of the SS crop. Last year we put in a fence to split the SS and rotated from August 1 to Sept 15 then back thru the pasture again before going out on stalks. We also have an H&S feed wagon with Stalk bales that we pull along with them. I think that it keeps their rumen in better shape because SS has a lot of water and the stalks help solidify their droppings. On straight SS you do not want to get within 5 feet of the hind end of the cows. | |
