Martinsville, Ohio | I hope it's me! I had nothing, came from nowhere, have a little, enjoy most minutes of it. Wish I had it sooner but didn't know how.
I like the my dad response. That was my dad for sure. Happiest guy you ever saw and is sorely missed to this day. Christmas day will be his last good day on this earth, 2000. By Jan. 3 his body gave up the ghost. How he did it in his circumstances just makes me smile, a better man than his oldest for sure.
You made me think of that post, just who is happy farming? No one seems as happy as when I was a kid or a young man. Maybe that's the business side of it, I don't know. I can think of a handful that seem pretty happy but I often am involved in that hard side of things, maybe I don't get to see the happiness all that much.
I think I saw a pretty happy bunch at Jeff's meeting last week, excited to learn more about the science and art behind farming. I will get to see a happy bunch at Indy in a few weeks at NNTC. That's the happiest bunch I can think of and that's a large group of farmers, 800 or so. I never have enough time there to talk seriously with a bunch of pretty optimistic and happy folks.
I don't think our country is as happy as it used to be so it makes sense it is in farming too but farmers by and large seem to be fairly happy. It's a hard business today though as it always was, just a lot less competing for the same amount of ground.
I know some real bitter people and that's just sad. I try hard not to ever be bitter but my personality swings a little. I think I am doing pretty well over all so yes I can say I am happy. I really can't speak for others but it is a great question.
Lot better than who's the biggest or the best for sure.
