Stratton, Ontario, Canada
Cows have access to bush, with lots of space, so lots of clean snow to lie on, which keeps them clean. Straw is a waste of money and time. If I had to build shelters for them or bed down with straw, I wouldn't be in cattle.

Clean hair insulates from a lot of cold air and snow. Its the hair that caked in crap that needs the bedding. And when you bed, if your not continuously putting down new bedding, the cows lay down in the leftover crap and the crap-to-hair problem gets worse.
