To answer your question using numbers I found on google...

A Ford powerstroke 7.3 makes 225hp and 375ft/lb tq. A CIH Magnum 245 makes 245hp but produces 1477ft/lb tq. As you can see both are close in hp but tq is way different . Tq is what gets work done. The magnum will pull alot more even tho both have same hp
