What unit was he in. Your dad and mine would have been "old men" during the war as they would have been 32 and 33.

The picture with the guys standing around the coffee pot was taken at Hildesheim Germany. They had liberated a German POW camp that housed about 16,000 Allied POW's. They were assisting the Red Cross in getting the men fed and returned to their country. The picture on the rock was taken in Germany after the war was over. The final picture was taken on his way home on the Liberty Ship as they passed the Rock of Gilbralter.

They were a great generation of people. Honesty, dignity, hard work and common decency meant something.

For years my dad hardly wanted to talk about his experiences. He has since came to terms with it and takes pride in his service.
