northern MN | I have just been working on a retirement plan. My cost to raise an acre of beets for this past year was $1095/ ac. Stock costs were averaged between $0 and $375 If i were to add an opportunity cost average cost would be $1236 per acre. We had a large crop and trucking alone cost $100 acre and we had some unexpected repair bills that will total in the area of $25/ac above normal. Nothing cheap about raising beets but still a far cry from what the potato guys spend. The expesive ground in ND went to a potato farm as I understand it. Im just about ready to say to nell with it and let the kid do it, Im to old to put up with this crap. I should be able to enjoy what my 35 year carreer has provided without everyone I rent from thinking Im getting rich off their asset.
