west Nebraska northeast Colorado
Phil,
I can understand a yield loss from wider rows where other factors are not limiting yield. What do you think about possible yield losses from wider rows (10" going to 15") in an area where precipitation and heat at grain fill are clearly significant limiting factors? Here in the western Nebraska I may be growing wheat on 6-10" of precipitation + what water is in the soil profile from summer fallowing. Temperatures at grain fill may be 90F or higher. Adequate seeding rates here (at a reasonable seeding date) would be 750,000 to 850,000 seeds/acre.
