This may not be too popular, but after reading both sides of the story, I think it's much ado about nothing. Fans walking into "enemy territory" flaunting their team pride are almost always taunted. Whether it's right or wrong, it happens. Most of the time it's good natured ribbing, but it can quickly get out of control which apears to be what happened. Happens all the time around this great country.
