NW IA | Plenty of good comments. If the hay is in large rounds it takes a big mixer to handle a bale so you might need to grind it anyway. I only milked 35 cows and bought a brand new Patz V350. using large square hay, as much as you wanted, the grain mix, and enough corn silage to make it mix well, feeding a TMR was just plain fun. I sold my cows 5 years ago and still hope to feed enough cattle to justify dusting off my expencive "blue toy" some day! No experience with horizontals but if you need to mix long hay the verticle would be best, IMHO.
