There was a pow camp near the Phoenix Az where the Phoeniz zoo is today. There was an escape attempt one time where a bunch of German pow's planned to steal a boat and row down the salt river to the gila river and on to the gulf of California and Mexico. Only problem was there was no water in those rivers. I guess the don't have dry rivers in Germany.
