Cheap and free are usually just that, cheap and free. No frills and just as cumbersome as the better stuff, just a matter of how much you want to put into it.
Looking at your odd shaped fields, I'm thinking you are going to save yourself $5-$10/acre just by not overlapping or skipping anything. Multiply that by the number of passes over the field. On 1000 acres you are looking at $5000+ just the first year. Pays for some equipment rather easily.
