Subject: Re: Nebraska water shortage this year ?

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
The aquifer won't run out of water anytime soon. We can probably sustain the present rate for another 20 years without having too much affect. But we are already affecting our streamflows. At the pace we're pumping this year there will likely be declines. Probably of a foot or two. In the Republican rive basin in the SW portion of NE, that is where the allocation is more strict. I live in an area of 9" allocations which is the lowest in the state. Long term we need to get to the recharge rate of 5 or 6" to be truely long term sustainable.
