| Those who are recommending the bigger 4wd tractors (the Case, bigger JDs, Versatile, Steigers) are missing the point of the White 4wd - these simply weren't meant to compete with those large tractors - if you need much power then yes, shop for the power that you need. Toward the end of their production, White was just getting into the larger frame 4wd market with the 4-270 and 4-325 tractors slated for production but not quite making it. The 4-150/180 and 4-175/210/225 platforms were designed to compete against large MFWD tractors and the 2+2 from IH. A cost-effective 4wd tractor with row crop versatility. Not a large frame locomotive on wheels for the big plains country and big tillage, but more of an all-purpose tractor that was well suited to a larger variety of tasks. Sure, larger farms have outgrown them and need more power, but if these are enough power for your needs, they are a good solid tractor - getting back to your original question and staying on topic here. Nothing much wrong with a later 3208 motor - again, for the power levels used in these tractors they were actually a decent choice. I'd recommend setting your sights on a 4-210 also, or a 225 if you can find one. They're a very solid tractor.
