If I get this correct you are saying that by grazing 4 months of the year you would end up making bad feed for your cows??

Now surely if I am a small guy of equal skill in silage making but only have say 100 cows, yet 150 hp on my chopper, I can make my feed faster than a dairy with 1000hp and 1000 cows. So the smaller guy has the ability to beat the weather, and make better feed, and the running costs of the equipment could be cheaper per cow as well. The higher the number of cows you have to feed the more difficult it becomes to produce forage stocks at their optimal time.
