Waverly MN | The lower auger is driven from the front of the spreader. The upper auger is driven from the rear by the drive chain in the back. If you open the front cover if the lower auger is the problem in the rear it should also show a problem in the front. My guess is it is the upper auger that is moving if you are not having any trouble in the front drive area. As far as what holds them. On the front there are large bearings with lock collars. Good chance you have a faulty bearing on the upper auger in the front. That is my guess let us know what you find. Good Luck. We have a 8141 and a 8130 and they are great spreaders.
