NC Indiana
We did a mixture after wheat last yr (mid/late-July) on a field that had the pivot added late. Forage oat, Forage pea, millet, groundhog radish, purple top turnip, sunflower, and left over seed corn. We made balage off of it 30 days after planting and then hit it w/ water and the radish and turnip took off from there. Kale may be another one to look at. Might look at cereal rye, barley, or keep some wheat and mix in turnip, radish, and/or kale and maybe a pea or crimson cover. A lot of the SWCD's have done cover crop plots around here, and the "what's left over" mix always looks light years ahead of the rest.
