It moderated the brake application a little bit, but as long as the brake pedal is just actuating a simple on/off switch, the brakes are going to be harsh. Seems they cut a corner or two when they designed the foot brake circuitry.  I've about come to the conclusion that there's no sense in trying to sneak up on applying brakes. Might as well just stomp on the pedal and hang on. At least, that way you aren't startled when the brakes do finally apply 

Ed, you lost me here.  Maybe the MT800 brakes are different, but the MT700's have a cable from the brake pedal to master cylinder.  The cable actuates the brakes manually.  There is no reason they should not be able to modulate the brakes.  The electric switch on the brake pedal is just the brake light.

I will have to look again, but I thought they pop can size accumulator had to do with the air conditioning.
