Subject: Re: Air transfer system

When I put my 5" air system in 4 years ago I was not very impressed with my dealer's idea about using a surge tank. Taking his expert advice about the surge tank, I'm glad that I did it. In the last 4 years that we have used the system, we've unloaded the dryer at rates from less than 400 BPH to rates of 1300+ BPH. The surge tank allows me to run the air system at it's most efficient all the time, no matter what the dryer unload rate. We went with the cyclones on top of our bins. The cyclones were about $400 each if my memory is accurate, I would imagine dead heads would be quite a bit cheaper. Supposedly, the cyclones are easier on the corn. One thing I don't like about the cyclones are we get a LOT of bees wings, dust/fines and other debris all over our yard from the air that blows out the top of the cyclones.
